Resources

Here at Be The Budget, we have tried and tested a lot of products and services that are just plain crapola. Because of that, we only ever recommend resources that we fully trust and believe in. And on this page, we’ve compiled a list of all our favorites.

So, if you are looking for recommendations on anything related to budgeting, saving and investing, you are in the right place.

Additionally, if you’re looking to start a blog or run an online business of your own (which you definitely should), we’ve included the digital resources and tools that have helped us take Be The Budget from 0 to over 35,000 monthly readers (including our #1 favorite marketing tool).

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us through our contact page. We try to respond to every email we receive (as long as it isn’t spam), and we would love to answer any questions you might have.

Ok, enough with the jibber jabber. Let’s get to all the awesome resources!

CIT Bank

CIT Savings Builder – Our #1 Savings Account

If your savings account is earning something like 0.1% interest, then you are leaving a significant amount of money on the table each year. And that’s why we recommend the CIT Savings Builder.

With an interest rate that puts the national average to shame, this account will actually help your savings grow. Plus, it only requires a $100 opening deposit to get started.

In order to earn the maximum APY, you need to either deposit $100 into your account each month (which you should be doing anyway), or maintain a minimum monthly balance of $25,000 or more.

Put simply, if you’re looking for a top-notch savings account, the CIT Savings Builder is one of the best out there. Seriously, it’s our personal favorite!

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get cash back on almost every purchase you make? Well, your dreams are about to come true, because that’s exactly what will happen if you start using Rakuten!

With Rakuten you can earn anywhere from 1% to 15% cashback on purchases you make from thousands of different stores. And while most of their cashback opportunities will come from purchases you make online, they have recently started offering cashback for in-store purchases as well.

In order to start using Rakuten, you just need to sign up for a free account online. Then, we also recommend that you download the Rakuten Chrome Extension so that you never miss a cashback opportunity.

Plus, if you sign up for Rakuten after clicking through the button below, you’ll receive a $10 bonus after spending your first $25 on purchases that qualify for cashback. Cha-ching!

EveryDollar – #1 For Budgeting

Here at Be The Budget, we have tried all sorts of different budgeting apps, and EveryDollar is hands down our favorite.

First of all, it is a zero-based budgeting app, which is the only method for budgeting we recommend. With this app, you can plan your finances down to the penny, which will help you stay laser-focused on your financial goals, and help you maintain incredible control of your financial life.

Plus, EveryDollar is incredibly simple to use, so there’s almost no learning curve! (We can’t say the same for other budgeting apps we have tried.)

And the best part is, it’s FREE!

They do have an upgraded version called EveryDollar Plus that costs $129 per year, but honestly, the free plan is so good that you may never feel the need to upgrade!

By the way, we’re not an affiliate of EveryDollar. We just think it’s the bee’s knees!

Bluehost Logo

Bluehost – #1 WordPress Hosting For Beginners

If you want to start a blog or online business of any kind, you are going to need to host your website somewhere. And in our experience, Bluehost is the absolute best option for beginners.

First and foremost, their customer service is about the best you will ever experience (in any industry). Seriously, if you ever run into an issue, or just need a little technical advice for your website, the Bluehost customer service reps will be there to help you through it all.

Secondly, their website and setup process is incredibly simple. So, if you’ve never set up a blog or website before, you don’t have to worry about learning and working through any complex or intimidating processes. Their interface makes everything simple and intuitive.

Finally, with wordpress hosting plans starting at just $3.95 per month (billed annually), their pricing is hard to beat.

SEMRush – #1 Marketing Tool

If I could go back to when I was just starting out as an online business owner and do one thing differently, I would sign up for SEMRush from the get-go! This tool has become an absolute essential for us (and our secret weapon) when it comes to developing a winning content strategy.

We started using SEMRush about 5 months ago, and in that short time, Be The Budget has gone from approximately 39 organic users a day, to over 1,500 organic users a day (and rapidly rising). Why? Because SEMRush helped us discover areas of content that we would have never thought to target. And once we did, our organic traffic exploded!

By the way, when I say organic traffic, I’m referring to traffic from search engines (like Google), and social sites (like Pinterest); all of which don’t cost us a dime!

Now, I realize that SEMRush is probably the most expensive tool on this list. At $99/month for their base level subscription (which is all you’ll need) it might seem a little steep. But seriously, other than hosting, our subscription to SEMRush has become our most valuable investment.

If you want to revolutionize your content strategy, and finally start winning in the search engines, you need SEMRush. Like I said, I wish I could go back in time and start using it earlier.

ConvertKit – #1 For Building Your Email List

As a blogger, your greatest asset is your email list. Why? Because it’s the only source of traffic source over which you have complete control. And since it is so important, you need to make sure you are working with a provider that can help you make the most of it.

And after working with a number of other providers, our hands-down favorite is ConvertKit.

First of all, unlike other email services, their user interface is incredibly simple to use. Seriously, if you want to set up a 7-day email series for all your new subscribers, it’ll only take you a couple minutes. If you want to tag and segment your list so that certain emails only go out to subscribers with specific interests, no problem.

Beyond that, ConvertKit has an awesome library of high-converting landing page templates that you can easily set up and integrate with email sequences and automations that create an awesome experience for your subscribers!

Plain and simple, ConvertKit takes all the complexity out of building and managing your email list!
